NECO

The National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO), through its coveted Ellis Island Medal of Honor award, each year acknowledges the important contributions of some very special people.

Nasser J. Kazeminy, NECO Co-Chair writes, "NECO has for over twenty years celebrated the diversity that comprises our unique American mosaic. Our Ellis Island Medals of Honor recognize individuals who have had a lasting impact on their own communities, our nation, and our world."

Zentangle and NECO teamed up and, with the 2008 Medal of Honor winners' help, we all created this beautiful and powerful Zentangle mosaic which was incorporated into this poster.

Leaders in art, science, law, national defense, education, philanthropy, industry, sports, medicine, and government drew these Zentangles. Who did which one? A U.S. Senator? An Olympic gold-medalist? A retired judge? Maybe a six-year-old daughter of a well-known philanthropist? The owner of a major sports team? Where is he from? What language does she speak? Without knowing, we can still appreciate this marvelous mosaic as we simultaneously honor each tile's individual and unique contribution.

We are grateful to NECO, the 2008 Ellis Island Medal of Honor recipients and family members who "one stroke at a time" contributed to this powerful image. This mosaic inspires us to honor the beauty of each person's pattern and unique perspective and appreciate and celebrate how each individual combines and collaborates in a larger American mosaic.

Due to scheduling and shipping restraints we continue to receive Zentangle tiles that could not be included in this poster. We will gather them all together and post them here soon so you can appreciate them in more detail. We'll let you know when in our free newsletter.
